Im Schatten der Angst (1. This helps overcome the story's loose ends because the visuals are nicely lit in this British noir. Lizabeth Scott's son, Jon Whiteley, finds a gun in a bombed out area of London and accidentally shoots a playmate. Out of fear, he flees with the gun.

The bullet matches one used 1. This brings Captain Steve Cochran into the case as well as the police, headed by Herbert Marshall. But the criminal George Cole, who was involved years before, learns about the gun and he too sets out to find the boy and the weapon. This is more than enough to keep the story going quite well. Cochran starts off imperiously and impersonally, as compared with the emotional and eager Lizabeth Scott. Their relationship goes from frosty to warm. Whiteley leads everyone a merry chase through some good locations.
Cole is a suitably slippery presence, weaving in and out. The story and movie do not live up to their possibilities, there being some improbable coincidences and a certain laxness to the proceedings. In the end, it has to be marked down as a worthwhile effort with some plusses, but a more or less average offering overall.
As a noir fan, however, I certainly enjoyed seeing this in a nice print and watching the work of Cochran and Scott. Whiteley is also notable as were the location work and night visuals.
